Artist Statement

Nature’s complexity and artistry are what inspire me to create- whether it’s the pattern of a pinecone, the twists in a branch, or the imperfections wrought by adversity. I gather many of my art materials close to home- gourds grown in my garden, sagebrush from the shrub-steppe, pine needles for coiling. Combining these natural elements with pigments and encaustic medium results in a unique and varied blending of shape, color, and texture. I enjoy experimenting with gourds, coiled sculptures, and paintings to create works of interest and beauty. I also enjoy having the opportunity to collaborate with other artists in our Yakima community.
