Mary Jepsen

Artist Statement

Mary didn’t begin painting until after retirement in 2015. Since then, she has taken classes from watercolor artists Lisa Hill and Birgit O’Connor.

She enjoys painting plants, pets, glass and is just starting into landscape, particularly painting her two favorite areas of the U.S., the Plains States, where she is from, and Eastern Washington.

“I know I have a long way to go,” she says, “And, watercolor is known as a difficult medium. But I love the effect of color and water blending and running about on the paper. It can be transparent looking or heavy and opaque.”
