Stephen J Rice

I was born in Yakima, Washington, and my journey as an artist has taken me from the Pacific Northwest to Beijing and back again. After studies in San Diego, I pursued a master’s in Traditional Chinese Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, becoming the first non-Asian to earn that degree from the Chinese Painting College. After fifteen years in China, I returned to Yakima, where my recent work revisits traditional technique while reflecting on themes of truth, innocence, and the quiet weight of lived experience.
